Personal Projects – Data
Outside of work, I leverage some of my downloadable personal data to work on analytics projects and expand my skillset. Two such projects are available to view on my Github page. I used R/Rstudio for both of these projects and my Github page contains both the end product + the code.
Visualizing FB Messenger over time
Leveraging my downloadable FB Messenger chat history, I tested out the functionality of a new visual graphing tool (ggplot_calendar_heatmap). The result was a heatmap visualizing the frequency of messages with a group of friends over a period of 4 years.
Interactive Shiny App for Google Maps data
In this project I built a Shiny app powered by my Google Maps location data. I used the Longitude & Longitude elements of the dataset on top of the Leaflet R package to plot one of my motorcycle rides. Then leveraging the interactive slider functionality within Shiny & the Timestamp data, I created an animated/interactive map to visually represent my ride up PCH to/from Malibu.
Professional Experience – Projects
In my career, I have had to good fortune to not only fulfill my analytical duties but also take on the responsibility of implementing some direct consumer facing projects/tasks. Below are some of examples of my work with the highest reach.
National Social Media Contest
In the age of Facebook and Instagram, getting your customers to become ambassadors for your brand is one of the biggest challenges facing digital marketers. Using a combination of our product and social media platforms, we curated a national user generated content (UGC) contest in which customers across each of our franchise locations could compete against one another for thousands in prize money. From our nearly 100 locations, we generated thousands of entries with tens of thousands participating in our online voting process. I directly managed the social media accounts associated with the contest including engaging with customers through Instagram and answering questions related to the contest. I also coordinated the nomination and voting processes across our franchise locations.
Multi Million Dollar Mobile Commerce Channel
With the rise of smartphones, having a high converting mobile commerce channel is an important piece of any online business strategy. I had the privilege to oversee the build of the first mobile commerce channel for a multi million dollar company (somewhat of an understatement on the actual revenue associated with the company). This project was cross-functional in nature, needing to work with groups such as Operations, Finance, and various IT teams. From start to finish, we worked on an accelerated timeline to complete and launch the channel within 3-4 months. I personally had a hand in the copy writing, design, QA testing the end user experience, and the implementation of proper web analytics tags. (Let’s not forget the importance of good data collection)
Website Content Management
In each of my past roles, I’ve had the responsibility of managing a consumer facing website. Most notably during my tenure at the global franchise organization, I created and managed the landing pages associated with all national marketing campaigns. I designed the layout of the webpages, altered image assets to appropriately match the layout, and wrote copy to go on these pages. In addition to my work on national marketing campaigns, I managed the initiative to redesign the B2B sales website which included working with the agency hired to review important existing pieces, approve copy, and build out the specified pages.
CRM Email Deployment
No digital marketing experiences would be complete without a CRM component, and I was fortunate enough to work with a database that had millions of subscribers. I worked to execute all recurring campaigns – including the gathering of partner content, programming of email designs with appropriate content links, and the eventual deployment of emails through our marketing software.
